Greenwich Village [Greenwich Village] BrE NAmE (alsothe Village)
a district of ↑Manhattan where many artists, writers and students live and meet in the galleries, cafes, bars and clubs. It was associated with the ↑beat generation. In 1969 the Stonewall riots took place there.
