(1870–1945) the young English ↑aristocrat who was Oscar Wilde's lover when Wilde was arrested and sent to prison for ↑homosexuality, which was illegal at that time. The long letter that Wilde wrote in prison, published later as ↑De Profundis (1897), was addressed to Douglas.
