Obie [Obie] BrE NAmE noun (AmE)
any of several US awards given each year for the best plays performed off-Broadway (= not in one of the main ↑Broadway theatres). They were established in 1955 by ↑Village Voice newspaper. The name comes from ‘OB’, the first letters in ‘off-Broadway’.
