Oklahoma! [Oklahoma!] BrE NAmE a musical play (1943) by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. It ran for 2 212 performances on ↑Broadway and was one of the first modern musical plays to combine a strong story with songs. It is about the love between the ↑cowboy Curly and the farmer’s daughter Laurie. The songs included Oklahoma!, which is now the official state song of ↑Oklahoma state, and Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’. A film version appeared in 1955.
