[inconvenient inconveniently] late Middle English (originally in the sense ‘incongruous’ or ‘unsuitable’): via Old French from Latin inconvenient-, from in- ‘not’ + convenient- ‘agreeing, fitting’ (from the verb convenire ‘assemble, agree, fit’, from con- ‘together’ + venire ‘come’). Current senses date from the mid 17th cent.
