Webb
Webb [Webb] BrE NAmE the name of a married couple who were important figures in ↑socialist politics in Britain during the late 19th and early 20th century. Sidney Webb (1859–1947) and his wife Beatrice Webb (1858–1943) wrote several books together which had a great influence on political thought at the time. These included The History of Trade Unionism (1894) and Industrial Democracy (1897). Together they helped to establish the ↑London School of Economics and the ↑New Statesman magazine. Sidney was made a ↑baron in 1929.
